Different Types of Media
There are several types of media that can be used to create a visual tour of the department, these include:


Text - includes newspapers, magazines etc. Text would be used to give written information about the department. This would meet the objectives of the department as it would give detailed information on the department. This would be aimed more at the parents, as they are more likely to read into the finer details of the subject, whereas the students would be focusing more on the ‘fun’ aspects of the virtual tour.

Video - YouTube videos, music videos etc. Videos would be used for the virtual tour of the department, showcasing the rooms and any work that may be on the walls of the department. This would meet the department’s objectives as they are able to show exactly what goes in within that department. It meets the audience’s expectations as they get a full visual representation of the department, it also gives them a better idea of what they will do in that subject, whereas still images would only show a small portion of the department.

Audio - includes songs, voices and sounds. Audio would be used when people speak in the video, or if background music is being played. It would meet the objectives of the department as the teachers in that department could get across their view on the department and talk about what happens there. This would meet the audience’s expectations as parents and pupils would get information on what happens in the department, helping them decide whether or not to choose that subject.

Still Images - includes photos, drawings and paintings. Still images would be used to display photos of the department in the virtual tour. It would meet the objectives of the department as the photos could show students enjoying their lessons, or displaying their work. This would meet the audience’s expectations as new pupils would see the sort of work that they would be doing, and parents would see that the school is clearly a fun place to be in.
